The Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism proposes to prohibit relatives of prominent personalities from applying for eternizing of their memory. The document has been submitted for public discussion.
The ministry told how much was spent on one anniversary. Rent of a hall of the Opera and Ballet Theater or the Philharmonic Hall costs 25,00 soms for an hour. Publications in state newspapers cost 17,000 soms for one page. Editing of a film dedicated to the hero of the day costs 2,000 soms per minute. Every year, up to 5 million soms are allocated from the republican budget for celebration of anniversaries.
In recent years, the number of appeals from relatives and countrymen to government bodies with a request to name cultural and educational institutions, streets, parks and villages after some persons has sharply increased.
It is proposed to prohibit the public figures in good health, regardless of their status and the awards received, to celebrate feasts at the expense of the republican budget. Events to eternize the memory of personalities in an industry should be held independently.
In addition, it is proposed to exclude the practice of installing monuments and busts to passed away state and public figures exclusively in the capital regardless of the place where the hero of the day lived and worked.
