Low culture and behavior on roads - main reasons for poor safety

At least 80 percent of Bishkek residents consider a low level of culture of behavior of the road users as the main problem on the roads, but not the bad roads or absence of video cameras for recording the violations of traffic rules. These are the results of a poll, conducted by the Public Association "Road Safety."

"Lack of mutual respect between a pedestrian and a driver, disregard of the traffic rules often become the causes of traffic accidents," the initiators of the survey noted.

According to their data, 58.5 percent of the capital's residents consider the state of road safety in the city unsatisfactory, and 3.6 percent - good.

Answering the question how to solve the problems on the roads, every second respondent said that the intensive education of children at the schools was necessary.

According to the Road Safety Department of the Central Internal Affairs Directorate of Bishkek, at least 471 traffic accidents took place in the capital with the participation of children, in which 531 children were injured. In total, three children died on the roads of Bishkek last year. The most dangerous district of the capital is Leninskiy: there were 139 traffic accidents last year, in which one child was killed and 165 were injured.

Experts noted that children did not know how to navigate. They propose to introduce a separate subject at the schools to study the traffic rules.

The Public Association "Road Safety" interviewed 4,500 citizens, who answered the questions online and personally. The aim of the survey was to detect and solve road problems.
