UN Office in Bishkek receives protesting human rights defender

The UN Office in Bishkek received the human rights activist, Ondurush Toktonasyrov, who was protesting in front of the United Nations Office building. The citizen demands to release the Kazakhstani blogger Murat Tungishbaev, who is in pretrial detention center 1. The representative of the Committee to Protect Freedom of Expression Mukhit Mamytov told.

According to him, representatives of the UN informed Toktonasyrov that they were aware of the case, but as the legislation had changed, the organization would not be able to interfere in such cases, it could only provide legal assistance.

«Representatives of the UN contacted the State Migration Service of Kyrgyzstan. They were told that the department sent a request to the State Committee for National Security to hold a meeting with Murat Tungishbaev to conduct an interview about the political asylum. But the SCNS has not yet responded to them,» the activist said.

Recall, on May 10, SCNS detained a citizen of the Republic of Kazakhstan Murat Tungishbaev on suspicion of belonging to the movement «Democratic Choice of Kazakhstan.»
