The poll showed that 64 percent of the polled police officers in Osh consider the bride kidnapping as the norm. This was stated at an expanded meeting of the Public Council of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic.
At least 82 percent of respondents believe that the woman herself is to blame for being subjected to violence.
«The results of the questioning of police officers say that they are not well informed about bride kidnapping and gender inequality. This is alarming, since ignorance of such aspects as a whole undermines the authority of the police, forming a negative attitude of the society towards law enforcement agencies,» statement said.
