At least 28 people were convicted in Kyrgyzstan for kidnapping of girls for marriage for six months. The Prosecutor General’s Office informed 24.kg news agency.
According to its data, 10 criminal cases were considered in the first six months of 2023. The agency noted that last year the courts considered 14 criminal cases of this category against 30 persons, which resulted in convictions.
The Supreme Court provided its own data. Response to an official request from the 24.kg news agency team states that district and city courts considered 21 criminal cases under Article 172 «Abduction of a person for the purpose of marriage» of the Criminal Code in 2022, some 42 people were convicted, and one case was terminated.
