At least 570,000 Kyrgyzstanis get Russian citizenship over years of independence

Over the years of independence, more than 570,000 Kyrgyzstanis have got the citizenship of the Russian Federation. The Deputy Chairman of the State Migration Service of the Kyrgyz Republic Almazbek Asanbayev told today at a press conference.

According to him, in some years, 15,000-20,000 citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic took citizenship of the Russian Federation. In 2017, it were 8,700 Kyrgyzstanis.

"After the accession of Kyrgyzstan into the Eurasian Economic Union, we see a decrease in interest in changing the citizenship," Almazbek Asanbayev said.

In 2017, at least 738,300 citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic have entered the Russian Federation, 642,000 of them got migration registration.

"As of March 1, 2018, there were 632,300 citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic in the Russian Federation, 241,000 of them got migration registration. After the accession of the Kyrgyz Republic to the EEU, a person is registered by migration service if he or she stays in Russia for more than 30 days. Therefore, the number of people who entered and left was larger. Most of the people were there for less than 30 days. In 2017, the Russian Federation has issued to our citizens 7,700 permits for temporary residence," added Almazbek Asanbayev.
