EBRD ready to sponsor projects on providing Kyrgyzstan with drinking water

The President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbai Jeenbekov received the Managing Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for Russia and Central Asia Natalia Khanjenkova.

The parties exchanged their views on EBRD projects in Kyrgyzstan.

Natalia Khanjenkova noted that EBRD intends to launch projects in Kyrgyzstan to provide the population in the regions and towns of the republic with clean drinking water, as well as on irrigation.

According to her, in the near future, the development of feasibility study of the projects, which are to be launched in 2019, will begin. At least $ 86 million is allocated for these purposes, $ 36 million of which is a grant.

«These projects are in tune with our policy of regional development, which are clearly spelled out in the decree on their development. In particular, the goal is to increase the export potential of the regions through the construction of processing enterprises and logistics centers,» Sooronbai Jeenbekov said.
