While announcing the verdict, the judge noted that the term of imprisonment of the leader of the Ata Meken party Omurbek Tekebayev and ex-Ambassador Duishenkul Chotonov will be 4.5 years. The lawyer of the defendants Isken Afidzhanov said this to Azattyk.

The judge of Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek city Aibek Ernis uulu sentenced the leader of the Ata Meken party Omurbek Tekebayev and the former Ambassador to South Korea Duishenkul Chotonov to 8 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property. In addition, upon release, defendants will not be able to hold public office for three years.

The judge explained that in accordance with the law on the 65th anniversary of the UN declaration on human rights, an amnesty was applied against the defendants. Thus, the term of imprisonment for Tekebayev and Chotonov will be reduced by one third.

Lawyers sentenced to terms of imprisonment have already stated that the verdict of the first instance will be appealed in Bishkek city court.

Omurbek Tekebayev and Duishenkul Chotonov were found guilty by the court of corruption. Their supporters declare the political component of criminal proceeding.
