Six servicemen died in Kyrgyzstan in 2016

Six deaths of servicemen were registered in 2016 in the units and institutions of the Armed Forces of the Kyrgyz Republic. Such data was presented today in the ombudsman’s office to journalists.

They include one murder, two suicides, one death from violation of rules for handling weapons and violation of the statutory rules of relations.

For comparison: 12 facts of the death of military personnel were registered (10 cases in the service, two — outside) in Kyrgyzstan in 2014. Seven servicemen committed suicide, two died as a result of accidents, one — due to illness and two more — as a result of violation of rules for the handling of weapons.

In total, four criminal cases were initiated, eight of them were refused in opening.

«When suicide occurs, the prosecutor’s office doesn’t initiate a criminal case. This is a problem. If a soldier died, it is necessary to initiate a case anyway,» Ombudsman Kubat Otorbaev said.
