Global Fund approves application of Kyrgyzstan for grant of $ 23.5 million

The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria in Kyrgyzstan approved the application of Kyrgyzstan for a grant of $ 23.5 million for the next three years (2018–2020).

The Minister of Health met with the new Portfolio Manager of the Global Fund Artashes Mirzoyan.

Recall, the main recipients of the Global Fund grants in the Kyrgyz Republic in 2003–2010 were the Republican AIDS Center, the National Phthisiology Center and the Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision of the Ministry of Health.

Since 2011 till present, the main recipients of grants is UNDP and 45 sub-recipient organizations. In 2014, the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic was designated the main recipient of grants by the decision of the Country Coordination Committee.

«We can already begin the process of signing the grant," Artashes Mirzoyan said. — But beforehand it is necessary to solve and discuss some questions. There are four recommendations, two of which should be fulfilled by the Ministry of Health, the Global Fund, the secretariat, the country itself and the country team before signing the grant. In particular, to assess the potential of the system and the project implementation group of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, before the latter assumes the role of the main recipient for the next financing period. We also would like to have a balanced budget.»
