Customs officers of Russia seized 230,000 packs of smuggled cigarettes from Kyrgyzstan. The press service of the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation reported.
Customs officers found 230,000 packs of smuggled cigarettes in Yeakterinburg worth 36 million rubles produced by the UAE. The Illegal cargo was found in a container from the Kyrgyz Republic, in which cigarettes were hidden under bags with dried fruit.
«A resident of Sverdlovsk Oblast purchased cigarettes in Kyrgyzstan without mandatory labeling and excise stamps and simultaneously rented a warehouse in Yekaterinburg to store the cargo. Customs officers tracked the delivery and inspected the rented warehouse, where they seized 32 types of tobacco products,» the press service noted.
A criminal case has been opened on the fact of smuggling of strategically important goods on a large scale. The man faces a fine of up to 1 million rubles or imprisonment for up to five years.
