Parliament approves Mederbek Satyev for post of Supreme Court Chairman

Deputies approved the candidacy of Mederbek Satyev for the post of the Chairman of the Supreme Court without discussion at the meeting of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan.

MP Nadira Narmatova noted that President Sadyr Japarov is appointing a professional to the post of the Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic for the first time.

Mederbek Satyev graduated from the law faculty of the Zhusup Balasagyn Kyrgyz State National University. He began his career in Sokuluk district, and was later appointed a judge of the Bishkek City Court.

It is known from open sources that in 2013, Mederbek Satyev was a member of the panel of judges for criminal cases of the Bishkek City Court, who acquitted deputies Sadyr Japarov, Kamchybek Tashiev and Talant Mamytov. They were accused of attempting to violently seize power. After this decision, Mederbek Satyev was early dismissed from the post of judge.

On August 6, 2013, the Supreme Court issued a special ruling against Bishkek City Court judges Kurmankul Zulushev and Mederbek Satyev in connection with gross violations of the Criminal Procedure Code during the consideration of a criminal case.

In October 2020, Mederbek Satyev was appointed First Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office.

From 2021 to 2022, he held the position of head of the department for interaction with courts and procuracy bodies of the presidential administration. After that, he was the director of the judicial department at the Supreme Court.

In 2015, he ran for Parliament from Respublika Ata Zhurt party, and was 43rd on the party list.
