Bishkek Mayor Aibek Dzhunushaliev reported that the fare for non-cash payments of 17 soms will not be increased. The press service of the capital’s City Hall reported.
The mayor explained that a decision was made in August last year to switch to non-cash payments. The first batch of buses began to arrive in the city. Then, 180,000 transactions for non-cash payments were made per day, the rest were paid in cash. A total of 460,000 soms were received per day.
In October 2023, a decision was made to allow cash payments, and 1,700 million soms began to be received from public transport per day.
According to Aibek Dzhunushaliev, the City Hall intends to further increase the share of non-cash payments. In his opinion, a large number of accidents involving public transport occur because drivers are distracted by collecting money. In addition, they appropriate money despite the established plan and passenger flow counting program.
