At least 63 percent of schoolchildren in Kyrgyzstan lack mathematical and functional literacy. The Minister of Education and Science Dogdurkul Kendirbaeva reported at a meeting of the Parliament.
Deputies discussed the situation in the field of preschool and school education in the Kyrgyz Republic. The Minister of Education noted that the country participated in PISA twice — in 2006 and 2009. Both times it took the last places.
«The study conducted in 2023 once again confirmed the low level of education of schoolchildren. This is also due to coronavirus. It is noted that 63 percent of children do not have mathematical and functional literacy, 43 percent do not have reading and comprehension skills. Taking this into account, we received textbooks from countries that successfully pass these assessments and are translating them into the Kyrgyz language,» Dogdurkul Kendirbaeva said.
In 2025, 15-year-old schoolchildren from the Kyrgyz Republic will take part in the main stage of Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).
