Uzbekistan launches production of own electric vehicles

Production of electric vehicles has begun at the joint venture BYD Uzbekistan Factory in Jizzakh region of Uzbekistan. The first electric car rolled off the assembly line of the factory for the production of hybrid and electric cars on June 29. Uzbek media reported.

The Uzbek-Chinese joint venture began operating in January 2024. This is the first stage of a $160 million project designed to produce 50,000 electric cars per year. The factory has modern equipment and robotic systems from China. The production process is fully automated.

The plant currently produces Chazor and Song Plus Champion models. In the coming years, it is planned to expand the model range and increase production to 500,000 electric vehicles per year. The goal for the future is to enter the markets of the region.

The plant employs 1,200 people, many of whom were trained in China. In the future, the number of jobs is planned to be increased to 10,000.
