Mudflow in Nookat: Five people killed, dozens of courtyards flooded

According to preliminary information, five people were killed due to mudflows in Nookat. Baizak Otorbekov, deputy head of the Crisis Management Center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan, confirmed the information to 24.kg news agency.

Citing local residents, he told that six people were having a picnic in Abshyr-Ata area on the bank of the river. All of them were swept away by the current. Ministry of Internal Affairs employees and local residents found the bodies of five people.

Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations are working to eliminate the consequences of the mudflow, identifying the dead and injured.

A destructive mudflow occurred in Nookat district of Osh region of Kyrgyzstan at about 4.10 p.m. on June 28. Due to heavy rains, mudflows flooded ten courtyards and damaged two bridges in Abshir-Ata village. At least 15 households and a local school were damaged in Teskei-Kozhoke village. Mudflows swept away a car and a bridge in Kara-Bulak village. In Tazhy-Kyshtak village, the mudflow flooded seven courtyards and several sheds. The bridge on Osh-Razzakov road was also damaged.
