Kambarata HPP-1 project requires cross-border cooperation

«As for Kambarata HPP-1, I believe that this is exactly the project and the example that requires cross-border cooperation and mandatory discussion among at least three countries, if not more,» Nikolai Podguzov, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Development Bank, told reporters on the sidelines EDB Annual Meeting and Business Forum.

According to him, the project should be discussed by Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The EDB expressed its readiness, together with the World Bank, to allocate funds from the Technical Assistance Fund to update the feasibility study of the project.

«And our proposal is relevant. We submitted it to the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan and are conducting an active dialogue with the World Bank. The World Bank treats us very carefully and, let’s say, like a partner in this and other issues. Therefore, I am sure that we will organize this project together with the World Bank. And then, when there is an understanding of the amount of financing, participate in the syndicate that will finance the construction of Kambarata HPP-1,» Nikolai Podguzov said.

«We have an absolutely constructive dialogue with the government of Kyrgyzstan. The main thing is that the project does not stand still. The process of organizing a feasibility study is moving forward. We have something to do in Kyrgyzstan, including in terms of hydraulic structures. We are actively financing the Kulanak hydropower station project, and construction work is already underway there. We are ready to allocate funds for Kambarata HPP-1 and will be happy to jointly participate in the project,» he concluded.
