Member of Butun Kyrgyzstan party sentenced for social media post

The Jalal-Abad City Court found Chynygul Sherkulova, a member of Butun Kyrgyzstan party, guilty of public calls for a violent seizure of power. The press service of the court confirmed the information to 24.kg news agency.

The verdict was handed down on December 14, 2023. Chynygul Sherkulova was sentenced to three years in prison to be served in a general regime correctional colony.

«Based on the decision of the Constitutional Court of the Kyrgyz Republic dated March 29 last year, it was decided to count one day of the accused’s stay in custody before the verdict enters into legal force as two days of imprisonment. The execution of the sentence was delayed because Chynygul Sherkulova is raising a minor daughter,» the court said.

Chynygul Sherkulova, a resident of Kochkor-Ata, was detained in October 2023. She was charged under Article 327 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. The woman is accused of spreading false information on social media.
