Kyrgyzstan needs up to 500 million soms per year to treat tuberculosis and HIV

From 400 to 500 million soms should be allocated from the budget of Kyrgyzstan annually for the treatment of tuberculosis and HIV if the Global Fund stops funding. Director of the Association of Healthcare Programs Partner Network Aibar Sultangaziev announced at a press conference dedicated to World AIDS Day.

These funds, he said, are used to purchase medicines, tests and reagents.

«The regional manager of the Global Fund will arrive next week. The issue of signing the contract will be decided from December 5 to December 8. If not, then the country must submit a new application,» Aibar Sultangaziev said.

All medicines have already been purchased for 2024, he noted. The country will not be left without medicines for tuberculosis and HIV.

According to Aibar Sultangaziev, there is a serious threat to financing of treatment for 2025.

It became known in September that the Global Fund will stop funding to fight AIDS. This is due to the fact that representatives of government agencies of Kyrgyzstan were absent from the meeting at the Global Fund in Geneva to discuss the details of the country’s application for 2024-2026. The regional manager of the fund, Dumitru Laticevschi, said that negotiations on the application of Kyrgyzstan were stopped. Prior to this, the Global Fund approved funding for the country in the amount of $27.8 million until 2026.
