Bir Duino Film Festival: Screening of film by director from Ukraine not allowed

Another film was removed from the program of Bir Duino Film Festival. Lawyer Timur Artykov told 24.kg news agency.

According to him, Kyrgyztasmasy State Cinema Center did not issue a distribution certificate for the film «We Will Not Fade Away» by a Ukrainian director Alisa Kovalenko.

«They didn’t give us any expert opinion, they didn’t tell us what the violation was,» the lawyer noted.

The documentary film by Ukrainian director Alisa Kovalenko tells about teenagers from Luhansk region who found an opportunity to see a world outside of war.

Earlier, Kyrgyztasmasy State Cinema Center revoked the registration certificate from the film «Wartime Notes» by Barbara Cupisti about the events in Ukraine.

According to Timur Artykov, a certificate was issued to this movie, but then it was revoked. At the same time, the festival organizers did not receive any official document.

Both films have been removed from the festival program for now.

This is not the first time when screening of films as part of Bir Duino Film Festival was banned. In 2022, the films «This Rain Will Never Stop» directed by Alina Gorlova about the war in Syria and «Mara» by Sasha Kulak about the elections in Belarus were banned.

The opening ceremony of the XVII International Documentary Film Festival Bir Duino will take place today, November 27.
