Kyrgyztasmasy State Cinema Center revoked the registration certificate for the film «Wartime Notes» by Barbara Cupisti, which was scheduled to be screened on November 30. The Cinema Center reported.
According to it, «the film contains scenes of an extremist nature.»
«Kyrgyztasmasy cannot allow screening of a film that could provoke interethnic tension,» the center noted.
The film was supposed to be screened as part of Bir Duino International Human Rights Film Festival, which will be held from November 27 to December 1 in Bishkek.
Kyrgyztasmasy State Cinema Center recalled that the screening and distribution in the Kyrgyz Republic of films that have not passed state registration are prohibited.
This is not the first time when screening of films as part of Bir Duino Film Festival was banned. In 2022, the films «This Rain Will Never Stop» directed by Alina Gorlova about the war in Syria and «Mara» by Sasha Kulak about the elections in Belarus were banned.
