Kumtor justifies the hopes of the people. The head of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov said at the meeting of the Parliament.
According to him, next year the main emphasis will be placed on geological exploration of minerals.
«For thirty years we have been selling licenses for mining activities. In 2024 we will allocate 1 billion soms for geological exploration. Our biggest achievement in the mining sector is Kumtor, it justifies the hopes of the people. In 2020, mining brought 18.2 billion soms of profit for the country, in 2022 — 48.4 billion soms, it is 2.5 times more. There are 50 tons of gold in the tailing dumps, in 2025-2026 we will start developing them and extract 5 tons of gold per year,» the official said.
He added that the Kyrgyz Mining Combine has been declared bankrupt and investors have not fulfilled their promises. It will soon be transferred to the state.
«As for the construction sector, the president has instructed to complete all long-constructed projects. In three years, we have transferred 49.7 billion soms in capital investments to this sphere. In 2024, we ask you to allocate 8 billion soms to the construction sector, but we know that twice as much money will be needed. The main problem of this part of the economy is the failure of contractors, delaying construction, exceeding the estimates, so we were forced to introduce banking support of contracts. 1.7 billion soms were allocated for the construction of roads in Batken, which is the annual budget of the Ministry of Transport, as much as we allocated to the agency three years ago. In total, 3,426 billion soms have been allocated to Batken since 2020,» Akylbek Japarov stressed.
