1,167 Kyrgyzstanis convicted abroad

At least 1,167 citizens of Kyrgyzstan have been convicted and are serving their sentences abroad. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Almaz Imangaziev, voiced the data.

According to him, 514 Kyrgyzstanis are serving sentences for committing crimes in the field of illegal drug trafficking, 157 — for crimes against sexual integrity, 89 — for robbery, 87 — for murder, 85 — for intentionally causing grievous bodily harm.

«Since October 2022, consular officials of the Kyrgyz Republic have held meetings with more than 800 citizens of Kyrgyzstan serving their sentences in foreign countries (in 74 constituent entities of Russia). At least 28 petitions were received through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from convicted Kyrgyzstanis asking for transfer to their homeland. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, they received 292 petitions directly, of which 227 were sent to the Supreme Court. From January 1 to November 9, 2023, about 60 citizens of Kyrgyzstan were transferred from the Russian Federation to further serve their sentences, and 30 fellow citizens are at the transfer stage. It became known during the Kyrgyz-Russian bilateral negotiations about 459 citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic who did not express a desire to serve their sentences in their homeland,» Almaz Imangaziev said.
