Budget received more funds from Kumtor over the past year than for 25 years. The head of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, Akylbek Japarov, announced at the National Poverty and Inequality Development Forum.
«From 1994 to 2021, that is, for 25-26 years, Centerra gave us not more than $100 million in various dividends and transfers. And just last year we received $140 million in dividends. In the future, the position of the government and our president remains this: the subsoil should first of all serve the people,» he said.
The country’s main gold mine, Kumtor, became the full property of Kyrgyzstan in July 2022.
