Previously detained Russian activist goes missing in Bishkek

Russian activist Lev Skoryakin has gone missing in Bishkek. Oppositionist Lyubov Sobol posted about it on X social media platform.

With reference to human rights activists, she reported that Lev Skoryakin, an activist of the «left bloc» who was in the capital of Kyrgyzstan, was kidnapped on the night of October 17.

«A month before this, he was released from the pre-trial detention center based on the decision of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan refusing his extradition. Lev is an asylum seeker in Kyrgyzstan and cannot be extradited or deported to Russia,» she posted.

Over the past month, Skoryakin obtained a German ersatz passport, received humanitarian protection from Germany and was ready to travel to Germany.

On the night of October 16-17, ten people in 2 cars arrived at the shelter where he was staying and, introducing themselves as the criminal investigation team of the Kyrgyz police, took Skoryakin away in an unknown direction. The lawyers were unable to find him either in the police station, or in the temporary detention facility, or in the State Committee for National Security. At the moment, the whereabouts of Lev Skoryakin and his status are unknown.

«In January, he left Russia while being under investigation and stayed in Kyrgyzstan, where he was detained in connection with an interstate search. In September 2023, Lev was released, as the prosecutor’s office decided to refuse extradition,» Lyubov Sobol posted.
