Highest milk price among EAEU capitals registered in Bishkek

According to the results of August 2023, the highest prices for pasteurized milk among the capitals of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) were in Bishkek. The National Statistical Committee provided such data.

According to its information, the maximum average cost of almost all essential goods in August compared to other capitals of the EAEU states was registered in Moscow.

However, in August, the maximum average retail price of eggs ($1.27 per dozen) among the capitals of the EAEU countries was recorded in Bishkek, while the minimum retail price ($0.99) — in Minsk.

In addition, the capital of Kyrgyzstan has the highest prices for pasteurized milk ($0.9 per liter).

The lowest price of mutton ($6.61) and butter ($5.01) was in Bishkek. The lowest price of beef ($4.35) and pasteurized milk ($0.64) was in Minsk.

In August, potatoes in Bishkek were 20.4 percent more expensive than in Astana and Minsk, and 24.5 percent more expensive than in Moscow. The cost of bread made from first grade flour was 37.8 percent higher than in the capital of Kazakhstan. Beef in Minsk was 32.6 percent cheaper than in the capital of Kyrgyzstan.

The average price for eggs in August in Bishkek exceeded its level in Astana (by 5.5 percent), Moscow (by 22 percent) and Minsk (by 20.5 percent), pasteurized milk — in Astana (by 5.6 percent), Moscow (by 3.3 percent) and Minsk (by 28.9 percent).

A comparative analysis of the purchasing power of an average monthly salary in the capitals of the EAEU states shows that the least can be bought for the average salary in Bishkek. This is due to the low size of the average salary.

For example, in the capital of Kyrgyzstan, an average salary will be enough to buy more than 700 kilograms of flour, while in Moscow — three times more (2,301.2 kilograms). In Astana, one can buy 3 tons of potatoes for one salary, while in Bishkek — just over 900 kilograms.

2.7 times less products can be bought for Bishkek salary than for the Moscow one. The biggest gap is in the ability to buy potatoes (4.2 times), and the smallest — in the purchase of butter (1.4 times).
