Kyrgyzstani convicted of fraud pardoned

The Ombudsman’s Institute achieved a pardon for a man convicted for fraud. He has ten minor children, the press service of the Ombudsman of Kyrgyzstan reports.

From July 2022 to April 2023, the activities of monitoring commissions under local state administrations and local government bodies, which considered applications for pardon for convicts in prisons, were suspended. The latter claimed violation of their rights.

In January 2023, the Ombudsman received an application from a woman with a request to assist in pardoning her common-law husband. He served a term of 3.9 years in a strict regime prison colony by a court verdict.

The Institute of Ombudsman sent an appeal to the Pardon Commission under President with a request to provide assistance. Human rights activists pointed out that the convict has ten minor children, an elderly mother and a spouse who does not work. The convict was also diagnosed with viral hepatitis C.

In April, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution and commissions under local state administrations and local government bodies resumed their work.

The man was released from prison. He was pardoned by Sadyr Japarov.
