Country does no fear Western sanctions, Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan said

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Jeenbek Kulubaev in the program «Moscow. Kremlin. Putin» on Russia-1 TV channel, answering a question from journalist Pavel Zarubin about the impact of the threat of secondary sanctions on relations between countries, said that «Kyrgyzstan sees no obstacles to cooperation with Russia and is guided by its own interests.»

According to him, Bishkek and Moscow are strategic partners. «Well, our Western partners are talking about possible sanctions. But we also follow our own rules, and I don’t see any problems,» the Foreign Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic said.

Recall, Director for Sanctions of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office David Reed came to Bishkek at the end of April. He told at a meeting with journalists that the UK treats cultural, humanitarian, economic ties between Kyrgyzstan and Russia with understanding and does not call on the country to isolate itself from the Russian Federation.

David Reed also added that the UK was not asking Kyrgyzstan to apply sanctions against Russia, but world leaders, in particular London, are concerned about spikes in the volume of goods exported from the United Kingdom to the Kyrgyz Republic.
