Kyrgyzstani kept in pretrial detention center in Almaty goes on hunger strike

Artur Ibragimov, a citizen of Kyrgyzstan kept in the pretrial detention center in Almaty (Kazakhstan), went on a hunger strike. Relatives of the arrested person told 24.kg news agency. They also handed over a video they had filmed in a cell of the pre-trial detention center.

The citizen of Kyrgyzstan complains about the conditions of detention and bad food. According to him, the cells are damp, bedclothes are not provided.

«I previously applied to the prosecutor for supervision, asked him to come. He did not come. I was forced to engage in self-mutilation — I cut my hands. They keep us here like dogs. Although we are prisoners, arrested, we are people,» he says in the video.

According to relatives of the young man, he was detained nine months ago on suspicion of theft. He shot the video message on May 4, but since then the situation has not changed. As a result, the Kyrgyzstani was forced to go on a hunger strike. He asks the Embassy of Kyrgyzstan in Kazakhstan to pay attention to the situation and provide assistance.
