Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan sign protocol on cooperation in field of security

Secretary of the Security Council of Kyrgyzstan Marat Imankulov and his Uzbek counterpart Viktor Makhmudov held the second round of consultations between the Secretariat of the Security Council of Kyrgyzstan and the Executive Office of the Security Council under the President of Uzbekistan in Tashkent. «They discussed joint measures in the field of ensuring regional security, countering terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and other forms of transnational organized crime, the current state and promising areas of cooperation in the military and military-technical spheres, interaction in the field of prevention and prompt response to natural and man-made emergencies in the border areas,» the statement said.

As a result of the consultations, the parties signed a protocol that sets out additional bilateral steps to enhance cooperation in the field of security, exchange operational information, conduct trainings and exercises.

The Deputy Ministers of Internal Affairs and Emergency Situations, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Kyrgyz Republic, and the Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for National Security participated in the second round of consultations. The first round of consultations took place in May 2019 in Bishkek.
