Since the beginning of 2023, the official exchange rate of the U.S. dollar against the som has grown by 1.27 percent, reaching 86.77 soms per dollar. The head of the Department of Monetary Operations of the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan Azat Kozubekov reported.
According to him, to date, the situation in the foreign exchange market remains relatively stable. To smooth out sharp fluctuations in the exchange rate, the National Bank has conducted two interventions to sell foreign currency in the amount of $151.35 million since the beginning of 2023.
«Depending on the current situation in the domestic foreign exchange market and taking into account the market trend at one time or another, the National Bank will continue to adhere to the country’s current policy of a floating exchange rate and conduct interventions in order to smooth out sharp fluctuations in the foreign exchange market,» he concluded.
