Kyrgyzstan will benefit from a gas union between Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Stanislav Pritchin, Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Post-Soviet Studies of the National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences, said at a round table discussion.
According to him, to date, there are problems with gas reserves even in countries that have this resource. This year, the shortage of gas production in Kazakhstan amounted to 1.7 billion cubic meters. The situation is also quite complicated in Uzbekistan. It directly affects Kyrgyzstan.
«The idea of a gas union has no alternative today. Russian Gazprom has released about 140 billion cubic meters of gas, which could easily go to Central Asia. Intensification of cooperation in a team of Russia — Kazakhstan — Uzbekistan will only strengthen regional energy security. Among other things, this will strengthen the energy security of Kyrgyzstan, taking into account the agreements that the country has,» Stanislav Pritchin believes.
