Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov called the increase in the electricity tariffs a forced and justified measure. He voiced his position at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, the press service of the Cabinet reported.
«The forthcoming changes in the tariff policy are fully supported by economic calculations. This is a necessity that will make it possible to upgrade energy equipment and communications that have not been replaced since the Soviet Union,» the official said.
Earlier, the President Sadyr Japarov published an appeal to the people of Kyrgyzstan on his Facebook page. He commented on the rolling blackouts and announced the tariff increase.
On January 19, at a meeting of Parliament, Minister of Energy Taalaibek Ibraev admitted fact of rolling blackouts in the republic. According to him, if the electricity is not turned off for 1-1.5 hours, the transformers may fail. From that moment on, power industry specialists began to officially publish information on areas and time of the planned blackouts.
