Only 5 percent of young people satisfied with situation in Kyrgyzstan

Interest of the young people in the social and political life of the country has grown in Kyrgyzstan. UNDP study says.

The organization has published a study «The Youth Welfare and Development Index of the Kyrgyz Republic». It was conducted by interviewing respondents in nine areas of life: civic participation, economic opportunities, education, culture, healthcare, information and communication technologies, security and protection, family and ecology.

The document says that the share of respondents who are interested in the public and political life of the Kyrgyz Republic in 2017 was 31.5 percent, and in 2022 it increased to 74.5 percent.

Only 5.1 percent of respondents are satisfied with the situation in the country and believe that the state does not need changes.

About 22.8 percent of young people protest against the happening through peaceful rallies, various demonstrations and hunger strikes. 59 percent are satisfied with the level of human rights protection. 41 percent are not satisfied with the level of human rights services in the country.

It is noted that the share of young people satisfied with their financial situation decreased by 2.5 percent compared to 2017. Then 62.5 percent of young people were satisfied with their financial situation, and in 2022 this figure dropped to 24.4 percent.

The study says that 29.5 percent of the respondents answered the question «Where would you like to work?» saying that they want to start their own business, 19.1 percent would like to work in the civil service, 14.8 percent — in the private sector, 10.5 percent — in labor migration, 9.1 percent — for international organizations and the rest — in educational institutions, become farmers and so on.

The youth included unemployment (72.8 percent), poor quality of education (46.2 percent), environmental issues (26.4 percent), material problems, difficulties in obtaining education and others in the top five topical problems.

The survey was conducted at the request of the Ministry of Culture. At least 1,640 boys and girls (from 14 to 28 years old) from all regions of the country participated in it.
