65 percent of girls vaccinated against papillomavirus in Kyrgyzstan

At least 156,500 adolescent girls, or 65 percent of the target group, were vaccinated against the human papillomavirus (HPV). The Republican Immunoprophylaxis Center informed 24.kg news agency.

According to the agency, the highest coverage is in Osh, Talas and Naryn regions (85, 84 and 79 percent, respectively). The lowest coverage is in Chui region (40 percent) and Bishkek (42 percent).

Vaccination against HPV of 11-14-year-old girls began, according to the preventive vaccination schedule, on November 14. The girls are vaccinated in schools free of charge.

The Center recalled that due to an increase in the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections and influenza, educational institutions of all types and forms of ownership were closed for control of the disease from December 15.

In total, it is planned to cover at least 90 percent of adolescents in the target group (about 228,000 people). The vaccine is administered twice with an interval of six months.
