More than 70,000 Kyrgyzstanis stay in Russia illegally

More than 650,000 labor migrants from Kyrgyzstan live in Russia, 73,000 of them stay in the country illegally. The Minister of Labour, Social Security and Migration Kudaibergen Bazarbaev said at a round table in Bishkek.

«I visited the Russian Federation where I met with the Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev. We discussed the problems that have accumulated over the years. At the moment, 651,000 labor migrants from Kyrgyzstan live in Russia. About 73,000 of them stay illegally on the territory of the state. It was decided to allow unregistered Kyrgyzstanis to register before the New Year. Those who have not registered before will not be fined or deported,» he said.

According to the head of the department, there are about 1 million labor migrants from Kyrgyzstan all over the world. Most of them live and work in Russia, less in Europe, the USA and South Korea. Every year they transfer about $2 billion to their homeland.
