Members of garage cooperatives held a rally in front of the City Hall in Bishkek. More than a hundred people gathered for the rally. The participants demanded from the city authorities to stop the demolition of garages and establish a legal procedure for concluding lease agreements for municipal land plots.
Since mid-October the City Hall stopped renewing land lease agreements with garage cooperatives of the capital and sent them notifications about the need to sign an agreement with Bishkek Parking Lots municipal enterprise. Refusal of signing the agreement threatens with demolition.
An attempt was made to dismantle cooperative No. 12, located near Orto-Sai market, despite the fact that Vice Mayor Nurdan Oruntaev had previously stated that there were no plans to demolish cooperatives.
The distrust of the townspeople arose, among other things, because of the situation around the cooperative No. 20, which was demolished in the spring in the 11th microdistrict of the capital. Officials assured that they planned to build a multi-storey car parking lot in its place. However, after a while it became known that multi-storey buildings would be built there instead of the parking lot.
