The President of Uzbekistan signed laws on the ratification of the Agreement on some sections of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz border and an agreement on the joint management of water resources of Andijan (Kempir-Abad) reservoir. Press service of the head of Uzbekistan reported.
In early November 2022, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan Vladimir Norov and Jeenbek Kulubaev signed in Bishkek an agreement on separate sections of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz border and an intergovernmental agreement on the joint management of water resources of Andijan (Kempir-Abad) reservoir.
The bills on ratification of documents were adopted by the Legislative (Lower) Chamber and approved by the Senate of Uzbekistan’s Parliament.
«On November 30, Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed laws on the ratification of the Agreement between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic on certain sections of the state border and the agreement on the joint management of water resources of Andijan (Kempir-Abad) reservoir,» the statement says.
In accordance with the agreement, a border line with a total length of 302.29 kilometers was determined, including 35 sections of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz state border. Uzbekistan will also receive 4,957 hectares of the territory of Andijan reservoir and additional 19.5 hectares for the maintenance and protection of the dam, 1,019 hectares of pasture land will be transferred to Kyrgyzstan as compensation.
The Uzbek side undertakes to maintain the water level in the reservoir at a level not higher than 900 meters, to ensure free access and use of water of the reservoir by the Kyrgyz people (animal watering, irrigation, fishing), not to install engineering and technical structures around the reservoir, the press service specified.
The Kyrgyz side undertook to ensure the establishment of water protection zones and compliance with the water use regime.
The head of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov signed the relevant laws on November 29.
