Japan to continue supporting One Village, One Product project

Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov met with the President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Akihiko Tanaka as part of his working visit to Japan. Press service of the Cabinet reported.

Akihiko Tanaka noted that he was glad to see members of the delegation of the Kyrgyz Republic in Japan. «For many years, our agency has been assisting Kyrgyzstan in implementation of projects in the field of supporting small and medium-sized businesses, improving transport and road infrastructure. We are also pleased that the One Village, One Product project has shown excellent results,» he said.

In turn, Akylbek Japarov said that the Kyrgyz Republic highly appreciated the activities of the Japan International Cooperation Agency in the country.

«In Kyrgyzstan, JICA is implementing important projects for the sustainable economic growth of the republic. As concrete successful examples, I would like to mention projects for the development of transport and social infrastructure. As for One Village, One Product project, launched 11 years ago, in order to further develop the regions, it was decided to make it national, thereby expanding its implementation throughout the country. This is an important and necessary development tool for our regions. Given these circumstances, we are counting on the assistance of the Japanese side in its further promotion,» he stressed.

Akihiko Tanaka noted that JICA specialists would continue to provide assistance in the implementation of One Village, One Product project.

«Kyrgyz mountain honey is successfully sold in the cities of Japan. We are ready to expand the range of organic food products supplied to Japan. To achieve the stated goals, the Kyrgyz side proposes to consider the possibility of opening a trade house of Kyrgyzstan in Japan. I also invite you to visit our country and make sure that we have great potential for further cooperation,» Akylbek Japarov summed up.

The meeting participants discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest. The parties touched upon such areas as cooperation in the field of rehabilitation of road infrastructure, assistance in the modernization of medical institutions, human development within the framework of the activities of the Kyrgyz-Japan Center for Human Development and the JDS program.
