Kamchybek Tashiev comments on ratification of agreements with Uzbekistan

Thanks to the will of the presidents of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan and with the support of the Parliaments of the two countries, all border issues have been resolved. The Deputy Head of the Cabinet of Ministers, Chairman of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan, Kamchybek Tashiev, announced on the air of Region TV channel.

According to him, issues of disputed sections of the borders between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Uzbekistan have not been resolved for more than a hundred years.

«We had disputed areas both in Soviet times and before the USSR. To date, all issues of the delimitation of certain sections of the state border have already been resolved, there are no legal issues between our states,» Kamchybek Tashiev said.

He clarified that it is necessary to complete the demarcation procedure (the final stage of delimitation is the determining of the border itself. — Note of 24.kg news agency).

«After two presidents sign the agreement, God willing, next year we will move on to the demarcation procedure. We will put marks along the state border and stretch the wire,» the head of the State Committee for National Security said.

He called the solution of border issues a historic event and added that he was proud to be a direct participant in it.

«It was an honor for me to take part in such a significant historical process. We prepared all the necessary documents, received approval from the head of state, and submitted them to the Parliament. I am personally happy about this, as a civil servant and as an ordinary citizen of my country,» said Kamchybek Tashiev.

He stressed that, despite various unconfirmed arguments and rumors, the agreements were signed on mutually beneficial terms.

On November 17, the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan ratified the agreement with the Republic of Uzbekistan on certain sections of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek state border. On November 18, the Senate of Uzbekistan also considered and approved laws on the ratification of bilateral agreements with Kyrgyzstan.

A number of activists and politicians in Kyrgyzstan opposed signing of these documents. They created a Committee for protection of Kempir-Abad. Mass arrests began on October 23. Authorities sent 26 people to jail on charges of preparing for riots.
