The Senate of Uzbekistan considered and approved laws on the ratification of bilateral agreements with Kyrgyzstan, the press service of the Upper House of the Parliament of the Republic of Uzbekistan reported.
Senators discussed in detail the laws «On ratification of the Agreement between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic on certain sections of the Uzbek-Kyrgyz border» and «on the ratification of the agreement between the government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic on joint management of water resources of Andijan (Kempir-Abad) reservoir».
The Senate of Uzbekistan emphasized that «settlement of disputes related to the state border is important for ensuring the national security of the country, as this will prevent border conflicts and effectively counteract illegal trade. And the joint use of Andijan (Kempir-Abad) reservoir creates reliable guarantees for the uninterrupted supply of water to thousands of farms.»
As the press service notes, adoption of these documents will serve the rational and mutually beneficial use of transboundary water resources and will bring bilateral cooperation to a qualitatively new level.
On November 17, the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan ratified the agreement with the Republic of Uzbekistan on certain sections of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek state border.
