Uzbekistan compensates Kyrgyzstan for land under Orto-Tokoi reservoir

Uzbekistan compensated to Kyrgyzstan for land allocated for Orto-Tokoi reservoir. The Chairman of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan (SCNS), Kamchybek Tashiev, said at a meeting of the Parliament.

Deputy Talant Mamytov noted that the sixth article of the agreement with Uzbekistan states that the neighbors compensated for the land allotted for the construction of Orto-Tokoi reservoir.

According to Kamchybek Tashiev, Uzbekistan compensated the land for using the water from the reservoir, which is located on the territory of Kyrgyzstan.

«The Orto-Tokoi reservoir is wholly owned by us. This decision was made under an agreement between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan in 2017. But we demanded compensation for the land under the reservoir, as they use the water. But they refused. They said the water would be used. Then, during the meeting, I immediately gave the order to drain the water. Our water management department promised to drain the water within a month. I stated that we would settle the residents of Kok-Serek, Bayastan, Ak-Tash villages on the land under the reservoir. «If you don’t need water, then we need land,» I said. But they decided to compensate for it,» Tashiev said.
