The Bishkek City Court considered a measure of restraint against ex-deputy of Parliament Ravshan Dzheenbekov.
Lawyer Zamir Zhooshev asked to place the detainee under house arrest noting that he did not intend to flee.
«My client is a lawyer. According to the law, after detention of a lawyer, the investigator must send a notification to the Bar. However, this has not been done so far. His detention is illegal,» he said.
Ravshan Dzheenbekov himself confirmed that he did not intend to flee, and added that this arrest was the third in four years.
«The first time I was put in a pretrial detention center under Sooronbai Jeenbekov — in December 2019. Then I was offered to escape from the country to Europe or the USA. But I didn’t. I never intended to flee the country. Where can I flee if I have a family here?» he said.
Leaving the deliberation room, the judges read out the ruling, upholding the decision of the first instance.
