Up to 8,000 vaccination refusals registered annually in Kyrgyzstan

Every year, up to 8,000 refusals of preventive vaccinations are officially registered in Kyrgyzstan. Director of the Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis, Gulbara Ishenapysova, announced at a press conference.

According to her, official registration of anti-vaxxers has been conducted since 2016.

«Previously, refusals for religious reasons reached 70 percent. But at the end of 2021, this figure was 50 percent. This is the result of joint work with religious organizations, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), communities, government agencies. Now the refusals are because of questions about the effectiveness and safety of the vaccine. In this regard, we are intensifying our work,» Gulbara Ishenapysova said.

She added that refusals of vaccinations among migrants are influenced by the lack of information.

Vaccination of adolescent girls against the human papillomavirus will start in Kyrgyzstan from November 14. There are active discussions in parental chats, many are wondering about the safety of the vaccine.

Earlier, the center stated that all vaccines for routine vaccination entering Kyrgyzstan are safe, they are prequalified by WHO and included in the List of Essential Medicines. They are purchased through UNICEF mechanisms.
