The head of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov congratulated journalists on the forthcoming Information and Press Day.
In his speech, Japarov noted that the development of the country depends on the presentation of information by journalists and bloggers.
«Undoubtedly, Kyrgyzstan is a free country. Much is allowed to be written, but there are cases when some media write information that discredits the honor and dignity of citizens, officials and politicians. How much freedom, so much responsibility. The media is a force, but, unfortunately, today some of their potential is used as a weapon for their own purposes. Development of the state depends on how the media and bloggers present information. The honor of officials also depends on this,» said Akylbek Japarov.
The head of the Cabinet cited a phrase that was taught in the lessons of Marxism and Leninism: «It is impossible to live in society and be free from society.» According to him, the information began to be published quickly, but it is not always objective.
«The information provided has become faster and more concise. I will not say that it is more objective. For a single second we read the news all over the world. Thanks to the Internet, you work with colleagues who bring the news, including to the country’s leadership. This is a great merit of you,» Akylbek Japarov said.
It should be noted that unprecedented pressure on the media is observed in Kyrgyzstan; the website of Radio Azattyk was recently blocked, access of the media outlet to its bank account was also limited.
