Flow of drugs from Afghanistan increased

The flow of drugs from Afghanistan has increased after the Taliban came to power. The head of the Department of the State Service on Drug Control of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, Aidar Shigaev, told at a briefing in Bishkek.

«Despite the Taliban’s statement about the fight against drugs, we are seeing a trend towards an increase in their supply from Afghanistan. These are both old stocks and a new crop. Most of the banned substances go through our republic in transit to Kazakhstan, Russia and European countries. The main part of the deliveries is made through cargo transportation, a smaller part — through mountain paths in unprotected sections of the borders,» he said.

According to the specialist, in addition to hashish and heroin traditional for the region, synthetic drugs produced in laboratories, both in the country itself and in neighboring Iran, are increasingly coming to the black market from Afghanistan.
