Deputies Mirlan Samyikozho and Vinera Raimbachayeva spoke in support of independent media at a meeting of the Parliament on Thursday.
Mirlan Samyikozho noted that attempts to rein in journalists limit freedom of speech and freedom of thought.
According to Vinera Raimbachayeva, independent media help, they are necessary.
«We need Azattyk, Kloop, Kaktus. Their investigations and materials open our eyes and help us. We must support their work,» she said.
As it was previously reported, a rally took place on Thursday near the Azattyk radio office. The participants demanded to shut down three media outlets: Kloop, Azattyk and Kaktus.media and adopt a law on foreign agents.
MP Dastan Bekeshev posted on Twitter on Wednesday that his colleague Nadira Narmatova was collecting signatures under some appeal to the president with a request to shut down a number of media outlets. In particular, according to him, she demands to close Kloop, Azattyk and Kaktus.media.
Nadira Narmatova herself denied this initiative.
