Agreement on China – Kyrgyzstan - Uzbekistan railway signed in Samarkand

An agreement on cooperation in construction of China — Kyrgyzstan — Uzbekistan railway on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic was signed in Samarkand. Press service of the President of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The document was signed by the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Kyrgyzstan, the Ministry of Transport of Uzbekistan and the National Development and Reform Commission of China. It is envisaged to jointly assist in the successful completion of the feasibility study of the project for the construction of a railway section in the territory of Kyrgyzstan along the combined variant of the route Torugart — Arpa — Makmal — Jalal-Abad.

«The parties will actively cooperate and support the China Railway First Design and Survey Institute in conducting a feasibility study in Kyrgyzstan. The deadline for completion of all work on the feasibility study (including the time of the assessment) is no later than June 1, 2023.

The parties intend to distribute the cost of the feasibility study between the countries in equal shares, concluding a tripartite agreement on the financing of the feasibility study.

Construction of China — Kyrgyzstan — Uzbekistan railway is an important project in the transport sector of the Kyrgyz Republic. The new corridor will become the southern branch of the Eurasian Continental Bridge and will open access to the markets of Southeast, West Asia and the Middle East. This route will be able to ensure the delivery of goods from China to Kyrgyzstan, as well as to the countries of Central Asia and the Middle East, including Turkey and further to the European Union.

«The project will increase competitiveness in the international market of transit transportation by reducing the distance and time of cargo delivery. The implementation of the project will have an overall positive social and economic effect on the development of the economy of Kyrgyzstan,» the press service of the President of Kyrgyzstan noted.
