Another document on China — Kyrgyzstan — Uzbekistan railway signed in China

A tripartite document has been signed in China, providing for the next steps on China — Kyrgyzstan -Uzbekistan railway construction project. The Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

The document will speed up implementation of the railway construction project, which will help strengthen interregional ties, meet the goals of the Central Asian states to diversify transport routes and increase the region’s competitiveness as an international transport and transit hub.

Uzbek media report that the parties have completed the work on the development of a feasibility study and conducted a trilateral joint assessment of the feasibility study of the China — Kyrgyzstan — Uzbekistan railway construction project. An examination will be carried out on it.

The new document will determine the next steps in the implementation of this project, such as the development of detailed design, study and choosing of an investment and financing model.

The total length of China — Kyrgyzstan — Uzbekistan railway will be about 454 kilometers. At least 280 kilometers of them will run through the territory of Kyrgyzstan. 18 stations, 81 large and medium bridges with a length of 26.1 kilometers, 41 tunnels (120.39 kilometers) are planned to be built. The total length of bridges and tunnels is 146.49 kilometers, which is 47 percent of the entire length of the railway.

According to preliminary forecasts, reduction of the route from East Asia to the countries of the Middle East and Southern Europe will be about 900 kilometers, and the time will be reduced by 7-8 days, while the volume of cargo transportation may reach 12-15 million tons per year.
