Deputy proposes to build high-speed Bishkek – Batken railway

At a meeting of the Committee on International Affairs, Defense and Security of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan, MP Aibek Osmonov proposed to build a railway for a high-speed train from Bishkek to Batken.

The deputy noted that the number of accidents on the North — South road is growing from year to year, and the local residents can not afford expensive air tickets.

«We calculated a few years ago: if we launch a high-speed train, it will buy itself back in 20 years, even if the ticket costs 500 soms. This is how we will solve the issue of the safety of citizens, passengers will save time on a trip to the capital. We will support loans and grants for such a project,» Aibek Osmonov said.

The head of Kyrgyz Temir Zholu state enterprise, Azamat Sakiyev, said that the construction of the North-South railway would be expensive, given the mountainous terrain.

«We are also interested in connecting the north and south. Even if a road to Jalal-Abad is built, the travel time can be reduced by 5-6 hours,» he said.
